Graphing Langtons Ant
MANTGLA: Langtons Ant surface plots with increasing iteration counts.Each of main plots below contain three sub plots.
- Top left plot is a top down view of the binary matrix (the main lattice of black and white squares).
- Bottom left is a top down view of the Occupancy matrix (how many visits each lattice square has received), this is a monotonic count which means that the sum of ALL the elements (squared) in the occupancy matrix will be equal to the total number of iterations.
- The main plot to the right is a 3d surface plot of the bottom left occupancy matrix.
- Both subplots have not only been cropped, but are also on a 320x220 lattice which is different to the realtime plots using LCEE online which are on a 256x256 lattice and as a result not only will you see features on the main surface plot to the right that are not present on the left cropped subplots but also at high iteration counts the 104 highway traces out a different path causing completely different images, this is the nature of chaos where small differences at the start cause huge differences in the future, however at extreme iteration counts the bounded surfaces both generate almost Gaussian distributed data sets and all the plots begin to look the same.
